LIEUTENANT GENERAL J. DEBNATH ASSUMES THE APPOINTMENT OF COMMANDANT, ARMY MEDICAL CORPS (AMC) CENTRE & COLLEGE AND OFFICER-IN-CHARGE OF AMC RECORDS

Lieutenant General J. Debnath assumed the appointment of Commandant, Army Medical Corps Centre & College and Officer-in-Charge (OIC), AMC Records on 01 Aug 2026. Prior to present appointment, the General Officer was MG (Med) at Headquarters Eastern Command.

The AMC Centre & College, located at Lucknow, is the premier training establishment of the Indian Army responsible for training and shaping the future leadership of the Army Medical Corps while upholding the highest standards of military medical education and professional excellence.

An alumnus of Silchar Medical College, Assam, Lieutenant General J Debnath is an eminent Radiologist trained in CT & MRI. Over a distinguished career spanning 36 years, he has served in a wide spectrum of clinical, academic, operational, research and administrative appointments across the Armed Forces Medical Services. The General Officer has also commanded Command Hospital (Central Command), Lucknow.

Lieutenant General J. Debnath has held several prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments contributing significantly to patient care, medical education, healthcare administration and military medicine. His extensive experience in leadership and institution building has earned him a reputation as an accomplished clinician, teacher and administrator. The General Officer has the distinction of being the editor-in-chief of the Medical Journal Armed Forces India (MJAFI) for nearly four years.

As Commandant, AMC Centre & College and Officer-in-Charge, AMC Records, Lieutenant General J Debnath will steer the Corps’ premier training institution towards further strengthening professional military medical education, fostering innovation in training, promoting research and enhancing leadership development. His vision is expected to reinforce the Army Medical Corps’ commitment to excellence in medical services, operational readiness and human resource development.
